Genuine vs Aftermarket Phone Parts in NZ: What's the Difference?
Searching for phone parts in NZ, you'll run into a few different labels — genuine, OEM, aftermarket, and refurbished — and they don't all mean the same thing.
Genuine (or OEM) parts are made by, or to the exact spec of, the original phone manufacturer. They fit perfectly and match the original performance, but they're the most expensive option and can be harder to source for older or less common models.
Aftermarket parts are made by third-party manufacturers to work as a replacement. Quality varies enormously here — a good aftermarket screen from a reputable supplier can be very close to genuine in look and feel; a cheap one can have colour, touch-sensitivity, or durability issues. This is exactly why it matters who's sourcing your parts, not just what the part is labelled.
Refurbished parts are original components that have been removed from another device, tested, and sometimes re-calibrated. For things like camera modules or charging ports, a well-tested refurbished part can be a cost-effective, reliable option.
What we actually do: we stock a mix of genuine and carefully vetted aftermarket parts depending on the device and the job, and we'll always tell you which one we're using and why before you commit — no surprises at pickup. If you're after parts specifically (not a repair), get in touch via WhatsApp with your model and what you need and we'll tell you what we've got in stock.
Either way, every repair we do — regardless of which part is used — is backed by our standard 6-month warranty on parts and labour.
